Impact 2 Seattle 1

The win allows the Impact to remain in first place in USL D1 standings with 29 points, tied with the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Impact, however, has five games in hand.

For this first of two match-ups in 24 hours, Impact head coach Nick De Santis decided to rest some of his regular starters. Captain Mauro Biello, defenders Adam Braz and Mauricio Vincello, as well as forwards Daniel Antoniuk and Mauricio Salles did not start the game. Forward Massimo Di Ioia earned his first career start with the Impact.

Goalkeeper Andrew Weber, who played an eighth consecutive game with the Impact since Greg Sutton’s injury, remains undefeated (5-0-3).

This was the first match-up between both clubs since last year’s semi-final series, when the Sounders eliminated the Impact, September 25th, to move on to win the USL D1 championship.

Both teams will meet again in Montreal, July 26.

The Impact will plays its next game Sunday, July 16th, in Vancouver, against the Whitecaps.

GOALS
31st minute – Following a throw-in by Ben Somoza in the Montreal zone, Sounders striker Cam Weaver flicked the ball with a header that beat Impact goalkeeper Andrew Weber in the top right corner.

37th minute - Accepting a pass from Impact midfielder Mesut Mert that split the defence, forward Joel Bailey broke free from his defender and beat Sounders goalkeeper Chris Eylander with a low shot, to his right.

72nd minute – Impact forward Daniel Antoniuk carried the ball inside the Sounder's eighteen yard box drawing multiple defenders. At the last moment Antoniuk looked right and played the ball to Mauro Biello who beat the goalkeeper to the far post with a low shot.

POST-GAME COMMENTS
CAPTAIN MAURO BIELLO
"It feels good to score. I’ve been playing well lately but the only thing missing were the goals. I’m happy I scored the game winner. It’s a big win for us on the road, especially since Nick (De Santis) rested a lot of guys tonight. It’s encouraging for tomorrow night (Sunday)."
