The soccer season on Radio-Canada will start with the home opener at Saputo Stadium, Saturday, May 9, against the Rochester Rhinos. Eight other games will also be broadcast live from Saputo Stadium, while the Saturday, August 1 game against the Miami FC will be broadcast live from Tropical Park Stadium, in Miami.
Six out of ten games will be played Sunday afternoon, starting at 3:30 pm. On May 17, Radio-Canada will notably present the game against the Austin Aztex, the new USL First Division franchise.
The matchup between the Impact and their Canadian rivals, the Vancouver Whitecaps, Saturday, June 20, at 1:30 pm, will also be broadcast to highlight Canada Soccer Day.
“We are very happy to count on the support of Radio-Canada, which is such an important partner, for a third consecutive year,” said Executive Vice President of the Impact and Saputo Stadium Richard Legendre. “Following the club’s success in the last months, we are thrilled to allow soccer fans across the country to follow the Impact once again this year on television.”
“The crowd of more than 50,000 people that attended the Impact’s victory at Olympic Stadium confirms the great potential of soccer for us,” noted Radio-Canada Sports Director François Messier. “Radio-Canada is proud to contribute to this enthusiasm as official broadcaster of the Impact and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which we will have the chance to get a taste by broadcasting the finale of the Confederations Cup in South Africa, on June 28.”
Each game will also be presented live on www.radio-canada.ca/sports.
Should the Impact qualify, the playoff games could also be broadcast live. Note that this is the third season of a partnership that makes Radio-Canada the club’s official television broadcaster.
