IMPACT 3 MIAMI FC 1

« It’s a good result for us and the game was another good preparation for the team,” noted Impact head coach John Limniatis. “But I’m not totally satisfied because we slowed down in the last 30 minutes of the game.”

“A 3-1 win against a league rival is good,” said Impact defender Cédric Joqueviel, who played the full 90 minutes. “It gives us the chance to see where we are compared to an opponent that we will face this season. We conceded a weird goal at the end of the game, so it’s unfortunate to lose the clean sheet that way.”

Impact midfielder Tony Donatelli scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 9th minute. Donatelli took a low shot to the left of the net to beat the goalkeeper, who dived to the opposite side. The penalty was awarded when forward Roberto Brown was fouled in the 18-yard box.

Brown doubled Montreal’s lead in the 41st minute. On the play, Leonardo Di Lorenzo centered the ball from the left flank to Joey Gjertsen, who then made a short pass to Brown. He scored on a point-blank shot, beating the Miami FC goalkeeper to his right.

Miami FC reduced the lead to only one goal in the 72nd minute, beating Impact goalkeeper Matt Jordan from inside the box with a low shot to the short side. Jordan played the 90 minutes of the game.

Gjertsen, who played the whole game as a forward, scored the Impact’s third goal less than three minutes later. After dribbling past a defender, Gjertsen took a hard and high shot that beat the Miami goalkeeper to his right.

The Impact’s record is now 9-2-2 in 13 preseason games since the beginning of training camp.

The two teams will match-up for the first time in regular season play, April 24, at Tropical Park Stadium, in Miami.

The Impact will train again in Sunrise on Monday and return to Montreal on Tuesday morning. The Impact will then continue its daily training sessions at the Catalogna Soccerplexe in Lachine, Wednesday, to conclude the training camp.

The Impact will kick off its regular season April 18, in Charleston. The Impact will play its home opener Saturday, May 9, as they play host to the Rochester Rhinos at Saputo Stadium. Season tickets are currently available by calling 514-328-3668.
