MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced Friday the signing of American midfielder Bryan Arguez. Per club and Major League Soccer policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

Arguez, 22, played 19 games (2,065 minutes) in 2011 with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League (NASL), in the second division, helping the team reach the NASL playoff final.

Arguez was selected in the first round, 11th overall, by D.C. United in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. He spent one season in Washington before joining Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin, in January 2008. In two seasons in the German first division, he played one game with the first team and 10 games with the reserve team. He has also worn the colours of Estoril Praia, in the Portuguese second division, and played seven games with Miami FC in 2010.

Internationally, Arguez has played for the United States U17 and U20 National teams, most notably participating in the 2007 and 2009 U20 FIFA World Cups, and will compete for a place on the U23 Olympic National Team.

"Bryan has had a very strong season in 2011 with the Strikers. Some good experiences playing in Europe has prepared him to establish himself as a good player in MLS," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. "He is a strong and talented young player who has a lot of potential. We are excited to challenge him next year."
