IMFC’s twelve days of Christmas - no. 7

12xmas_7

Traditionally, the twelve days of Christmas begin at, well, Christmas, or the next day. But Impact Media, like a kid presented with an Advent calendar, has no patience.

We thus give you our countdown of the Impact’s top twelve on-field moments in this unforgettable 2016 season.

And a partridge in a pear tree, of course.

7. May 28, 2016: Montreal 3-2 Los Angeles – Di-dier Drog-ba, sha-la-la-la-la

Stoppage time, yet again.

This game sees Didier Drogba return from a one-game absence due to injury. A starter that night, Drogba sets up the Impact’s first goal, a Nacho special, and steps up late on when Daniel Steres fouls Piatti.

This free kick will be the last that Drogba converts in MLS play, but it is one to remember. Goalkeeper Brian Rowe freezes as the swerving ball approaches, and Drogba get a monstrous pop from the Stade Saputo faithful. The Impact wins this one at the death, 3-2.
